Final inlay booklet

Our final inlay booklet includes pictures of the artist edited so they are genre specific. It also includes lyrics to each song on the album because it builds a connection with the fans because they will be able to sing along to all the songs which is key to indie acoustic artist when at gigs. Also the final thing is a personal message which builds on the relationship between the artist and the audience and lets you into his life.

Filming schedule

We filmed some of our footage on the 17th and the 18th of November, however all did not go to plan and we have ended up with less footage than what we had needed. We will now have to work throughout the next 2 weeks to complete the video before the deadline. It is manageable under the circumstances, however we are short for time.

Changes to the video

During our filming we have used our storyboard as a guideline although through some reconsideration, we discovered more professional ideas for some of the scenes. This occurred when editing as we found that the footage we filmed was not enough, therefore we had to rearrange scenes in order to fit the music successfully and follow a realistic story-line.

 - We have not included the scenes at the train station, instead we have added in some POV shots and more scenes of the singer (me) singing with the guitar. I believe by doing this it will introduce the female to the audience well, and early enough in time for the chorus, and to understand the music video.
- The photo of the couple is also included in the video, although we have used a print out in which we can show it burning later on in the video, which is different to our first idea of it in a photo in the frame. I took the print out from the bin instead from under the bed where the audience will see that the photo has been scrunched up out of anger and sorrow.
- Although we filmed me putting his coat on and tying his shoes up, we decided to not include these scenes as they took too long, wasted time and we didn't think they were necessarily needed.
- We were thinking of ending the video with me burning the photo of him and the girl, but we put this clip further back as we thought ending with sun shining through would be more appropriate.
-Another change that we made was the actress playing the girl. As we were running out of time and it was hard to get hold of our original actress, we all decided that it would be more ideal to use a member of the group.
- We also decided not to do the compilation of images at the end as we felt there was enough of the couple happy in the music video so give the audience the impression that their relationship was loving and strong

Magazine advert

This is the photo we started with but then with adding the filters we wanted as well as all the things a magazine advert needs that i listed in the previous post this is how it is finished.

magazine advert

For our magazine advert we wanted to stay as professional as possible whilst sticking to the genre for our artist.
So we thought things we needed to include where:
The title of the album
A picture of the album
The name of the artist
Ratings from indie magazines
location shots
cross media platforms

The common conventions of Indie Adverts are normally that they have the appearance of being designed with a vintage feel and artistically which overall tends to be quite simple but creative. I believe that an image such as a photo of the artist with a vintage tint would really show that it is from this genre, which is used mostly in Indie. There is often a link to the Artists website or their twitter accounts so they can be easily connected with the artist.

Location research

One location that we have considered is on a field or common (natural location). We can easily travel to these locations from school locations we are considering are The Common in Saffron Walden, Parkers Piece in Cambridge. We think these locations give the natural feel very well which will fit well with our natural acoustic feel of our genre.

Another location that we have been thinking about doing is that of an urban setting. We aim to do shots of our couple walking down the street and have shots at a train station which will most likely be our master shot of the artist sitting on the bench singing the chorus and other parts of the song playing his guitar

And the final location that we are considering is to film in a stereotypical boys bedroom. The only difference to the boys bedroom is that there will be a musical interest to the room with guitars on the walls and amplifiers and speakers around the room which will show the artists love for music which is part of our genre. The lyrics will also be quite good for the lyrics with talking about "i'll lie here" and "you can rest your head" which all relate to either sleeping or lying which relates to the bedroom or bed.

Filming progress

We are done !!!

Possible digi pack fonts

These are possible fonts that we are considering for our digi-pack.
Through looking at other indie album covers we have seen that many have capital letters in the wording and some are also possibly hand written. Before choosing a font we will have to
look at the photograph and see if it suits one of our fonts.

The equipment

To film the music video at the best quality and standard and as professionally as we could, we used the best equipment available to us.

This camera shown is the one we used to film, as the footage it films is of a HD quality, which we allow us to capture close ups and the scenery we wanted to include in the scene. The camera we used was provided by the media department at school and was a handheld canon camera. It was extremely useful to us as we had decided to create some POV shots, which due to the handheld would make is much easier to complete. This camera can be easily attached to the tripod to make sure it captures a steady shot and it will film the necessary shots needed for our music video with ease.

The tripod we used was useful as it allowed us to film a steady and unshaken shot. We could additionally be able to film at different heights, as the legs can be adjusted.

Also to do our editing we needed to use the apple mac. this is because it had all the editing software we needed to make our video.

Inlay booklet

When making our inlay booklet we wanted to make our pictures fit our genres so we tried filters and different techniques to make them suit the indie genre like overlay for example.

Filming Weather

Weather

the locations that we are doing are Saffron Walden, Newport and possibly Cambridge. We were hoping to be able to have the past flashbacks in our setting and we think this will look better in sunny weather. On the present scenes luckily we do not need to have bright, warm weather; as it is late Autumn in England we are expecting, grey, foggy and rainy weather, which would be ideal for the overall feel of these scenes. So far I can only see Monday's weather report, but both days look rainy, so I feel we should film the more present scenes then because that weather would be perfect for this, hopefully Tuesday will be sunny so we can film the contrasting scenes, if not we will probably film indoors, and have to go out for one more sunny day for filming. Although this, you will never know how right the weather report is until the day.

POV-filming technique

During filming we discovered that we were lacking in shots of the couple together. Therefore in order to build the narrative of the song, this was vital, as it would give a personal feel to the video. Our inspiration came from Calvin Harris' music video for 'I Need Your Love'. In that video , the point of view camera technique is used which we felt would be suitable for our video.

Whilst filming, we experimented with this technique in everyday situation with the love interest included. For example, the male (me) filmed the two of them sipping coffee at a cafe which looks as though they are having a laugh and so brightens up the video. We then uploaded the POV clip to the Mac and inserted it into our video which we thought looked really good. Therefore we have decided that we should film some more similar clips for the narrative to run more smoothly. Locations could include, in bed, walking in the outdoors, a park. The POV shot is a brilliant way for us to bring the video to life as it really builds up the characters in the video. Developing the characters also allows us to enhance the narrative and so we end up making a video that can relate to our audience.

Artist in costumes

After doing much research from fashion websites such as www.asos.com topman and river island. We have found possible outfits that our artist will wear during the music video. The artists costume must be specific to the genre. Thats why with our artist we have made sure he wears everyday clothes that any other man his age would wear, this is because the indie genre isn't about the image its all about the music especially with our sub genre of the acoustic indie genre where its all about the music being natural.
Therefore with our research these are some of the fashion ideas we have come up with:

Prop ideas

Props.
As with costume we think that all props and locations should be very normal. The only thing out of the ordinary prop wise for our music video is that of the instrument used in our music video  which is going to be an acoustic guitar. this is key to the acoustic indie genre as this prop will help symbolise our genre .
This will be a key part of our video as we aim to have many close ups on the instrument to show instrumentation. This will therefore show that the artist can play the instrument to show another convention of the indie genre of the artist being talented being able to sing and play an instrument at the same time.

Another prop that we were thinking of using was that of a females handbag. This will be in most scenes due to the fact it is an every day item of a woman of the age of our character in the music video. It represents the character as being a stereotypical female, who would be involved in the situations going on in the narrative. The artist will also have a bag (a messenger bag) this will be used in scenes when the male artist is on his own. This will symbolise that the male artist has to carry his own weight now he's not with her.
A prop that will also be used is a bed because one of our scenes will be in a bedroom. This will be used when the artist is lying on his bed on his own. We want to show him lying on his own to represent that the artist is no longer with the female character in the video.
Another piece of furniture that we will be using as a prop is a bench. The bench will be used as the climax of the video when the artist will finally see that his passed lover has moved on. So this prop is key to our narrative as it will symbolise the end of relationship.
List of other minor props:
Coffees
leaves
swings
jewellery

Lyrics

Mike dignam-I'll lie here

You can rest your head upon my chest
I feel warmer with you there
Go to sleep my love I’ll watch over us
Drift to a peaceful place there’s no rush for you to wake

With your eyes closed and me as your pillow
It feels as though you were made to fit with me

Through your gentle breath I exhale my stress
I know I’ve found contentment in these sheets

You’re the escape from my daily routine
The calm in my storm you comfort me

So I’ll lie here
So I’ll lie here

If I could describe this moment
A unique feeling knowing
Although my hearts been broken
Wounds from others are closing

You whisper my name when you begin to wake
It’s the sweetest sound, reminding me that

You’re the escape from my daily routine
The calm in my storm you comfort me
 So I’ll lie here
I’ll lie here

If could change the weather I’d make it rain
So we could take shelter in this place,

Feeling your heartbeat is all I need

You’re the escape from my daily routine
The calm in my storm you comfort me

You’re the escape from my daily routine
The calm in my storm you comfort me

So I’ll lie here
I’ll lie here
I’ll lie here
I’ll lie here

With you

planning of the music video

Development of Planning for the Video

Its clear through research and analysis of different videos, that certain shots, editing and types of mise-en-scene would suit our video perfectly. One of the ideas that came through recently was split screening, have the artist telling the story on one side and having the protagonist and the narrative on the other side. This has been used in a number of indie videos and they all use narrative as well.

Another idea is to contrast Urban and Natural, by reflecting his feelings and the mood of the song. This is used in Jason Mraz's- I'm yours and it works well in showing the bad and good things in his life (Binary Opposition).

Another idea that we have come up with for our video is a 'God figure', this has also been used in a number of genres and a countless number of videos. Daniel Powters 'Bad Day' is an example where the artist plays a godly figure and narrates the story. 'Divine intervention' is also a possibility as it would mean the godly figure has a part to play in the story and not just a narrative role. The 'godly figure' also works well with the split-screen as seen in the 'Bad Day' video.

costume ideas

We intend for our indie artist to wear clothes that you can imagine the every day man of someone his age who you could imagine having a guitar in his hand. We aim to do this because this will give the effect that the artist is no different to the audience and that the video is just about the music, which is important to us because it being all about the music is a key convention of the indie genre.

We have been looking at looks for our artist with the use of google images sites such as asos.com topman.com and other fashion websites. These sites have lead us to think that brogues, dark jeans and jackets are all popular indie looks.
